Septopure® technology, designed to manage 100% liquid waste (faecal sludge), presents an innovative solution to combat environmental and health challenges in regions lacking sewerage systems. This technology aims to minimize environmental damage by providing a safe, cost-effective, and sustainable method for treating faecal sludge.

Given the high levels of pollutants in liquid waste, which can fluctuate significantly, Septopure® utilizes a flexible, continuous-flow, suspended growth process. This process, involving alternating anaerobic and aerobic stages, supports nitrogen and enhanced phosphorus removal and can be adjusted to handle variable loading conditions.

UN recognised our technology and listed Septopure® as an SDG acceleration solution: LINK

Septopure® offers a sustainable solution for liquid waste management through an orderly collection and treatment process. This method allows for the water to be repurposed as a living catchment or reused in various operations such as irrigation. Our successful implementation of the Septopure® solutions in three Ghanaian towns, Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale, speaks to our capabilities.

There was a lack of proper sewerage systems in these locations, with only 7-10% of generated wastewater being adequately treated. Given the crucial environmental and public health implications, the need for developing new wastewater treatment facilities was paramount. Our solution addresses this issue, effectively treating collected septic water in a manageable manner.

Mechanical pre-treatment is followed by flow, quality equalisation and pH adjustment. After the enhanced primary treatment, the effluent is sent to the biological process, which provides specific conditions for the removal of both nitrogen and phosphorus.
Secondary treatment facilities are used to remove settling solids. Depending on the sludge's potential for further use or disposal, sludge treatment may involve a combination of thickening, digestion and dewatering processes. The treated wastewater is discharged into the recipient, partial flow can be used as process water in the process after further treatment (filtration).

Not only the UN, but also the biggest interprofessional community, the International Water Association (IWA) acknowledges our technology. We proudly present the introductory movie of our near-to-customer wastewater treatment concept that now is available on the official YouTube channel of the International Water Association (IWA): Citywide Inclusive Sanitation Experience, Ghana (youtube.com)
