Intensification in Bánk
An important development has been completed in the Rétság agglomeration, Hungary, Pureco contributed to the technical design and implementation of the project.

Intensification in Bánk

A significant environmental and infrastructure development has been carried out in the municipalities of Bánk, Rétság and Tolmács in Hungary. The project was co-financed by the European Union. The recently completed project, entitled “Development of Wastewater Collection and Treatment in the Rétság Agglomeration,” aims to provide the region with a more modern, safer and more sustainable wastewater management system in the long term.

The complexity of the investment is clearly reflected in the fact that the development involved different tasks in each of the three municipalities. In Bánk, a new activated sludge biological wastewater treatment plant with a regional role was constructed, and the sewer network was also expanded so that properties located around the popular lake could also be connected to the system. In Tolmács, a new sewer network was built, to which all properties will be connected, while in Rétság the reconstruction and development of the existing network is being implemented.

Pureco Kft. participated in the investment as a subcontractor. Our task was to prepare the water permit design documentation and construction plans for the Bánk wastewater treatment plant, as well as to carry out the complete technological mechanical installation, electrical and control engineering works of the facility.

The former wastewater treatment plant in Bánk, which operated with outdated technology, has been replaced by a new, modern facility. The new plant operates with BIOCOS® technology, which combines the advantages of continuous-flow systems and the SBR process, thereby offering a stable, flexible and efficient solution for the biological treatment of municipal wastewater.
In addition to its high treatment efficiency, it ensures low emission values, while being easier to operate, requiring less mechanical equipment, and offering more favourable investment, maintenance and energy consumption conditions.
The Bánk plant, built as a greenfield investment, can treat 557 m3 of wastewater per day, with a capacity equivalent to 5,567 population equivalents.

Based on the trial operation results, the new wastewater treatment plant operates stably and reliably. The quality of the treated wastewater complied with the requirements, and the values of the tested pollutants remained below the emission limit values.
The development represents progress not only from a technical perspective but is also of outstanding importance in terms of protecting the region’s environment. The new plant and the expanded sewer network contribute to the enhanced protection of groundwater and Lake Bánk. As a result of the investment, nearly six hundred properties in the holiday area can be connected to the wastewater network.

We are proud to have been part of this important development as a subcontractor, a project that will serve local communities, environmental protection and the sustainable development of the region in the long term.
