In January 2025, Pureco, the Togolese Ministry of Water and Sanitation, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance signed an MoU that will result in the enhancement of sanitation infrastructure in the Greater Lomé region. This collaboration aims to construct two state-of-the-art faecal sludge treatment plants in Aképé and Djagblé, utilizing Pureco's Septopure® technology.
The United Nations recognizes this technology as an SDG acceleration action because of its effectiveness in treating 100% of faecal sludge in areas lacking sewerage networks.
The signing ceremony was attended by H.E. Mila Aziablé, Minister of Water and Sanitation of Togo; H.E. Tamás Fehér, Hungarian Ambassador; Madam Consul Sylvia Sela Malm, Hungarian Honorary Consul in Togo; and Mr Nicholas Frimpong-Manso, Project Development Director signed on behalf of Pureco; and officials of the Togolese Ministry and government agencies.
The construction of these treatment plants is expected to yield several benefits:
- Improved environmental quality: By reducing water and soil pollution, these facilities will help preserve fragile ecosystems.
- Health protection: Enhanced management of liquid waste will aid in preventing the spread of water-related diseases.
- Economic development: The project will create jobs and stimulate the local economy.
This partnership underscores Pureco's expertise in water and wastewater treatment and exemplifies how international collaborations can address global challenges. As construction progresses, the positive impacts of this initiative will become increasingly evident, reinforcing the importance of such partnerships in building a sustainable world.
