The 17th EWA Brussels Conference will focus on the Blue initiatives in the Green Deal and highlight the importance of transdisciplinary cooperation to guarantee reliable and highly qualitative access to water for all across the European Union.
The session called Water and Soil Protection focused on providing an overview of the current situation and regulation before discussing the impact of the EU Soil Strategy on water and the use of sewage sludge. During this session, the European Environment Agency, the European Investment Bank and the DG Environment will present their views on that topic.
Dr Károly Kovács PhD (oec), EWA Honorary Member, past President of the EWA, and Head of the EWA Economics Working Group, chaired the session on European Floods and Droughts as two extreme impacts of climate change. Speakers had a look at the past extreme events in Europe before discussing the necessary territorial management to improve water availability. In this session, DG Research presented its view on drought prevention research as well as a researcher from across the EU.
Participants were able to join the event on 8 November, both in person and remotely. Speakers and panellists highlighted the importance of cooperation between the different disciplines involved, and the importance of common thinking of representatives from the political, scientific, and business sectors.
