This year, we once again organized the now traditional Pureco Designers' Meeting in the beautiful surroundings of the Mátra Mountains, where more than a hundred engineers gathered to discuss the future of water management, the challenges of climate change, the possibilities of sustainable solutions, and the role of designers and engineers in this process.
The main topics of the presentations given during the day were rainwater as a resource and alternative water supply, as well as the contribution and impact of rainwater retention, drainage, storage, and reuse on climate adaptation. The new EU wastewater directive's stricter regulations on rainwater and the responsibilities of designers and engineers were also discussed.
Pureco colleagues presented case studies on rainwater management solutions for industrial investments in areas with high groundwater levels, rainwater storage options using large-volume corrugated steel tank systems, and the importance of oil separator maintenance and inspection, as well as opportunities for improving existing systems.
The professional sections also discussed industrial wastewater treatment, pollutant loads in storm water overflows, managing groundwater level decline caused by climate change, current issues in sustainable water management, and decentralized water retention options.
In the Grundfos section, the example of the "Ancient-Dráva program" was used to illustrate the impact of water extraction works on the environment and water management.
At the end of the meeting, the participants summarized the points raised during the day and discussed possible next steps. They emphasized that not only professionals but also broad sections of society are increasingly recognizing the importance of water resources, and that stricter legislation and social cooperation are essential for further development in this area.
The two-day professional conference was a great success, and we are already looking forward to the 7th Designers' Meeting in the fall of 2026.
