At IFAT Munich 2026, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Pan African Association of Sanitation Actors (PASA), further strengthening Hungarian African cooperation in the field of sanitation.

The agreement aims to support the preparation and implementation of projects focused on treating wastewater generated in unsewered settlements, including faecal sludge treatment plants (FSTPs). It is primarily aligned with international financing and support frameworks such as the Global Gateway.
Founded in 2019, PASA brings together sanitation-focused organisations from 31 African countries. As a continental platform, its mission is to strengthen the professional capacity of the wastewater treatment sector, promote cooperation among stakeholders, and support the sustainable management of sewage sludge and the advancement of public health across Africa.
The elevated level of professional cooperation formalised at IFAT was built upon the partnership agreement signed earlier this year between the Hungarian Water Partnership (HWP) and PASA at the Planet Expo.
That agreement marked the first milestone in Hungarian African institutional cooperation in the wastewater sector.
It also represents a significant recognition for the Pureco Group, as the collaboration is based on Hungarian water and wastewater treatment technologies, including the Septopure® solution, developed specifically for the treatment of wastewater generated in unsewered settlements and large cities, collected and transported in tanks. These technologies are already successfully applied in practice and have been recognised by the United Nations in the fields of drinking water and wastewater treatment.
With PASA, one of the leading advocates of faecal sludge management developments in Africa, and Pureco, the cooperation has now reached a new level through the MoU signed at IFAT. The partnership focuses on:
- preparation of FSTP projects,
- capacity building and professional training,
- adaptation of Hungarian technologies to local conditions,
- and the development of bankable, investment-ready projects.
The agreement provides more than a formal framework for cooperation: it creates concrete opportunities for Hungarian expertise and technology to make a meaningful contribution to sanitation development in Africa.
IFAT: a catalyst for international cooperation
IFAT Munich 2026 once again proved that the world’s leading environmental technology trade fair is not only a platform for showcasing innovations, but also a venue where strategic international partnerships are formed. For Pureco, the agreement concluded at IFAT reinforces its commitment to playing an active, initiator role in international water and sanitation development, especially in regions where sustainable solutions can deliver the greatest social impact.
